Thesis

"Is there a place for the old in today's society?"

In my opinion, the old and the elderly still have a place in today's society. These senior sages are the basis on which modern life and industry were built on. They are vast resources of knowledge, experiences and insights that should be cherished by all of us, and should be regarded as a group of people that is to be actively engaged for their expertise and opinions. However, despite this, the role of the elderly in our modern society is usually misconstrued as one that is antiquated as well as unrelated to modern experiences. As is the case, most of our elderly are considered to be rusting relics of times gone bye. This critical lack of understanding and appreciation for the elderly really provides a denial point of our own humanity as well as our own mortality.

State whether the thesis is a 'complete' or 'compromised' one. Explain why.

It is a compromised thesis, as though a stand is taken and clearly defined, an opposing viewpoint is brought into the picture to further balance the argument, as well as to bring a new perspective. The outcome of having a compromised statement would entail a more a comprehensive argument, as there is now a basis for contrast and comparison. Moreover, additional insights into the issue at hand are explored via the synthesis of both opposing sides, something which could not have been done were the thesis a 'complete' one.
