Is technology the best answer to environmental destruction?

[to be after argument 2]

However, while technology allows us to have greener alternative fuels, not many will want to try them out. With technology allowing for faster progress of society, not many will want to slow down and consider them, especially if it entails a huge increase in costs. Many countries are still using coal and fossil fuels despite the availability of feasible alternatives. China, as a rapidly-developing country, is dependent on large amounts of fossil fuel to provide their factories with enough energy and still maintain their competitive pricing. Switching to greener (and at the same time more expensive) alternatives will greatly impact China's economy, and as such, they are unwilling to do so.
