Is technology the best answer to environmental destruction?

Rebecca Henderson, a staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, commented that environmental destruction is not a technological problem, but a social problem. Indeed, environmental destruction can only be alleviated by addressing the very causes of it, that is, the huge amount of energy consumption and wastage caused by humans. This can largely be attributed to the laziness of people to alter their current lifestyles so as to make it more environmentally friendly. Another possible reason for this is the lack of environmental awareness of people in parts of the world where educational levels are lower. Therefore, the best answer to environmental destruction is not technology, but changing the mindsets of people and making them more aware of the technology that is available to help improve the situation of environmental degradation.
